"The student will perform 7 major scales/the Standard 26 American Drum Rudiments from the National Association of Rudimental Drummers (NARD), and the wind/percussion student will perform a chromatic scale." (derived from the Music Standards of Learning for Virginia Public Schools, adopted May 2000 by the Virginia Board of Education.)

Winds:
7 major scales (C, G, D, A, F, Bb, Eb)
Chromatic scale

Percussion:
Standard 26 Drum Rudiments
(see handout or download from this website in the Links section)

* 6th and 7th Beginning Band Students:

"Essential Elements 2000: A Comprehensive Band Method"

There is a fingering chart in the back of the book to make looking up fingerings quick and easy. The easiest notes to play and finger are presented first with exercises to practice them. This book comes with a play-along CD. This CD includes all solo exercises.
